The toll of this incident and the accumulation of other difficult calls left him struggling to continue and ultimately led him to leave his job and find other means to provide for his family. Marcus knew Jesus as his Lord and Savior but often felt discouraged in his efforts to reach this mission field. God had ignited a flame in his heart to reach first responders with the same Real Hope he had in Christ but he didn’t know what to do.
First responders and their families overwhelmingly feel isolated and alone. They turn to destructive means to cope and they struggle to trust others when “those calls” begin to haunt them. There are 4.6 million first responders serving our communities every day and we believe less than 10% of them put their trust in Christ. This is an unseen mission field.
When Marcus and his wife, Peggy, were introduced to Mission First Alliance, they immediately felt connected and invited into a community of like-minded believers who had similar stories as theirs. They are now on a journey to change lives as Mission First Alliance Regional Representatives in North Carolina. They made the decision to enter into this unseen mission field and now they know what to do. The flame is growing in their hearts, which they are working to spread to their church and the first responders in their community.
Marcus and Peggy are an example of the impact one can make when a fire is lit in the hearts of God’s people to be His hands and feet. It only takes a small flame to ignite a movement.
